Acne is a distressing skin problem, mostly affecting adolescents. However, acne may also affect adults in their twenties and thirties. Comedoniano or comedonal acne is a specific type of acne which most frequently appears on the chin and forehead. There are two types of comedones, namely, open comedones (blackheads) and closed comedones (whiteheads). Blackheads are caused by excessive melanin pigment; while whiteheads occur due to complete clogging of pores by sebum. Comedonal acne may be caused by hormonal factors, humidity, stress, oily skincare products and sunscreens.
