Acne Scar Removal

Most of the time acne scar removal is based on the digression of the health care physician.  There are tons of procedures that you can discuss with your physician or health care provider. Most treatment are considered by alot of things such as:

  • Your age
  • overall health
  • type of scar
  • medical history

Also the types of medications, creams, or oils that you have already tolerated.  Most types of acne that leaves scars is considered chronic or severe.  Most types of acne are usually only present during the teen years, but some cases can last a life time and leave behind horrible acne scars.

If you get the proper treatment and take special care it can usually help minimize acne scars.  There is a number of treatments often used to either remove or diminish acne scars.

Sometime you are left with scars that need to have some type of surgical work.  Some procedures can include but are not limited to:

  • Chemical Peels
  • Dermabrasions
  • Collagen Injections
  • Laser Resurfacing

There are some other procedures on how to reduce acne scarring that are not as well known as those like Punch Grafts and Autologous Fat Transfer.  You can also is your scars are just surface scars try special creams that you can purchase from stores or companies like Avon, Dove, and Neutrogena.  Some of them can be just as helpful and do not cost that much to purchase.

For acne scar removal Chemical Peels and Dermabrasions are probably the most popular types of treatment.  They are also one of the most expensive kind of procedures out there.

Chemical Peels usually involve removing the top layer of the skin.  They are usually used to make smaller scars, surgical scars, and acne scars.  After removing the top layer the skin usually approves in appearance and goes back to what it looked like when you young and pimple free.

Dermabrassios are mostly used to fix and smooth out the outside of the skin irregularities and scars that have been left behind by horrible acne.  Dermabrasion involves removing the top layer of the skin with an electrical machine.  The skin ends up healing and leaving a smoother and refreshed look.  It usually is a painless acne scar removal procedure that can be done in a very quickly in your physician or health care providers office.

Collagen Injections are new and use components that are injected beneath the skin to replace the bodies natural collagen that has been lost over the years.  Injectable collagen is usually used to treat wrinkles, scars, and facial lines like laugh lines and crows feet.  This can be used for those really deep acne scars that were caused by big sores.

A laser procedure uses a light to burn away the damaged skin.  It is usually used to take away small lines like laugh lines and wrinkles and small scars not the really deep scars left by severe acne.  Slowly after a couple of treatments you will notice your skin getting better.  This is generally the treatment of choice and usually only has a little downtime after having the acne scar removal procedure done.

Punch Grafts is a procedure that is not that heard of.  It is used to replace scared skin.  The procedure is done by a physician.  He begins with punching a hole in your the skin and removes the scar which is then replaced by unscarred skin taken from some part of your body.  Punch Grafts can help deep acne scars or scars that have been caused by some type of trauma.  This can od course leave you very sore and this option is not used that much.

Autologuos Fat Transfer uses fat taken from another site on your body and inject into your skin.  The fat is placed beneath the surface of the skin to fill up the acne scars or other scars that were left pretty deep.  This method is used to correct deep scars and the scared parts that look like they have left a hole or crater on your face.  Most of the time fat is absorbed back into your skin so your physician may have to repeat the procedure again.  This is also a acne scar removal procedure that is not that heard of and used as a last resort.

You can also use topical procedures such as Retin-A, alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) or glycolic acids that may be used to remove some of the superficial layers of the skin and improve skin texture.  This is especially true as an adjutant to laser treatment.

Dermal fillers are also used to treat acne scars.  The fillers are injected into the skin to flatten out the deep scars that some acne can leave behind.  This is something that is like having Collagen or Botox done.  The only thing when it comes to derma fillers for acne scarring is that you usually have to repeat the injections in the same areas a couple of months after getting the procedure done and can be kind of costly.

One last option would be to consider subcision, which involves your surgeon aking your skin and making it free of the layers that are deep so it is not that held down by the scar.  This procedure can leave you feeling very sore and make take a couple of days to heal.

Therefore there are tons of decisions to make when it comes to acne scar removal.  Be sure to do plenty of research and talk to your physician to see what your options are and what he/she would suggest you do. They may advise you try some creams or oils first and if that does not work then maybe some kind of small surgery.  But remember to do what is best for your individual needs.
