Home Remedies for Acne

Why spend money on expensive herbal and organic remedies, when you can use organic home remedies for acne?  Plus, without the added chemicals, you avoid an allergic or other adverse reactions to the contents of many OTC and prescription acne medication.  There are three types of skin; oily, dry and combination skin, which typically means you have dry cheeks and an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin).

People with oily skin tend to have over active sebaceous glands, usually naturally or genetically.  It is also possible that their skin is actually dry due to under-moisturizing and is over compensating with sebaceous secretions.  You might have to experiment to figure out which one you are.  Try cleansing and moisturizing at night, to see if greasiness cuts down by morning.  People with oily or combination skin are much more prone to acne than people with dry skin.  Also, combination skin can tend to be more dry in the winter and more oily in the summer, so be prepared to battle the acne in the summer time, even if normally you don't get that many pimples.

It is also wise to implement a regular skin care regimen.  This does NOT mean to wash your face multiple times a day.  Washing your face more than twice a day can leave to drying out of skin, and cause your glands to secrete more, leading to even more acne.  Do not pick at or try to extract pimples. This will leave pores exposed to all the bacteria on your hands, which can lead to further outbreaks.  If you are prone to acne, use a mild cleanser with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.  If your skin is more sensitive, find a cleanser made for sensitive skin, or a t least use a cleanser with a smaller percentage of active acne fighting ingredients.
